Carving wood is an enjoyable, creative hobby. Occasionally I carve something with no real intended use, just to see if I can get an idea out of my head and into the real world. Some of the things are really weird, some cute, some just plain odd. The image below will change every 10 seconds in a slideshow format. You can access the photos individually by clicking on the Rubik's cube looking button below.

Cherry burl free form carving
  • Cherry burl free form carving
This was carved by hand in a free form style and the base was turned from maple burl. Featured in Woodcraft magazine.
  • Middle Eastern Pine Bug
A turned and carved "bug". Created from a very old block of pine. This little guy looks like he's wearing a turban. He has disappeared, literally. I have no idea where this thing is today.
  • Sansushi
  • A very time consuming piece, made especially for a prestigious exhibit. Presently on display in the Arrowmont collection.
  • Maple burl bug
The first "bug" I created. My goal was to take a very formal hollow form and somehow make it come "alive". It was incredibly well received and is now in the Raymond Wong collection in China.
  • Burned bug
Another in my bug series, this is the first one that was detached from its base. The detail is done with pyrography and is now in the Molly Winton collection.
